Dear USATF Family,

As we enter autumn, we bid farewell to a very exciting outdoor track & field season. This excitement included a record-breaking 30 medals earned by the athletes, coaches, and staff of Team USATF in London at the IAAF World Championships, more than 8,100 youth athletes competing at the USATF Hershey National Junior Olympic Championships, increased opportunities for our race walkers, and our masters athletes crossing a major milestone with the 50th annual USATF Masters Outdoor Championships. The sport of track & field in this country is vibrant and growing, and Team USATF continues to shine at every level.

The IAAF World Championships and the USATF Hershey Junior Olympics were a celebration of the current and future state of our sport. The atmosphere in London provided evidence that we have something special that is attractive to fans and partners alike. Our objective looking toward Oregon21 and LA2028 – when the U.S. will host the IAAF World Championships and Olympic Games, respectively – is to find innovative ways to build upon recent successes and the increased popularity of our sport. It will require a unification of efforts across all constituent groups to maximize the positive impact of these historic events in the United States. The rewards for our entire federation and sport will be immense.

Off the track, we continue to witness tremendous growth and success. Congratulations to the LDR Committee for a banner year on the roads and trails. Silver medals by both the women and men at the World Long Distance Mountain Running Championships and full youth teams at the International Mountain Running Youth Cup was especially inspiring.

Behind all of our events are a dedicated group of officials that continue to make a positive impact in ensuring a safe and fair competition for all our athletes. I applaud the hard work by our Officials Committee to address the certification and retention of current professionals and tackling the recruitment of new officials.

Good luck to our athletes, coaches, volunteers, and officials at every level who are gearing up for the fall season for cross country, road racing, and trail running. I look forward to seeing many of you in person at the USATF Annual Meeting in December.

Best regards,

VinLan
