A message from Masters Track & Field Chair Rex Harvey

As we launch early online entry for our 2018 USATF Masters Indoor Championships in Landover, Maryland, I wanted to provide several exciting updates for the masters community that have directly resulted from our collaborative work with USATF CEO Max Siegel and COO Renee Washington at the National Office.

Over the summer at the regional NCCWMA Championships in Toronto, our masters athletes topped the medal chart with 527 medals and won every relay we competed in. For the first time ever, our athletes were provided with the current Team USATF uniform - the same one worn at the Rio Olympic Games - so we looked and felt like a true team. The National Office also provided two staff members to distribute uniforms and provide other assistance on-site in Toronto.

Most timely and relevant to this email, you will note a big change as you submit your entry for the 2018 USATF Masters Indoor Championships: the Masters Track & Field Committee is no longer adding a surcharge as a way to raise funds for masters travel and other programs. As a result of meetings we held this summer, Max is providing additional support money - roughly $50,000 - to cover these costs directly as part of the USATF budget process. Please join me in thanking Max and his team for their continued and growing support for masters programs.

We continue to work together on our World Number One (W#1) initiative, to make USATF masters athletes the world's best in international competition. Our 2018 USATF Masters Indoor Championships will be part of that process.

See you in Landover!
