USATF Annual Meeting
December 5-8, 2019
Reno, Nevada
The 2019 USATF Annual Meeting will take place December 5-8 in Reno, Nevada. During the course of the convention, the Masters Track and Field (MTF) and Masters Long Distance Running (MLDR) committees will each hold several sessions and later a joint meeting on Saturday afternoon, December 7.
In the MTF meetings, several proposed changes to the MTF Operating Procedures will be discussed and voted on. Among these proposed changes are increases to the number of authorized members of the MTF Committee and an increase in the term of the Active Athlete Representative to the MTF Executive Committee from one year to two years.
Masters athletes, both MTF and MLDR, are strongly encouraged to make plans to attend the Annual Meeting and take part in the process of making the decisions that govern our sport.

Call for Nominations - David Pain Distinguished Service Award

The USATF Masters Track & Field Awards Subcommittee is accepting nominations for the 2019 David Pain Distinguished Service Award. If you know of someone who has gone above and beyond in giving exceptional service to our sport, please take the time to submit a nomination. Past winners are not eligible. A full list of previous winners can be viewed here.

Call for Nominations - MTF Athlete of the Year Awards
The USATF Masters Track & Field Awards Subcommittee is accepting nominations for Athletes of the Year. If you know of someone who has had an exceptional 2019 competition year, you can nominate them for an age group or event group award. Every five-year age group will have one male and one female Athlete of the Year; one male and one female (regardless of age group) will be selected as an event group Athlete of the Year in the following categories: Sprint/Hurdles, Middle Distance, Distance, Racewalk, Jumps, Throws and Combined Events.

Call for Nominations - USATF MTF Hall of Fame
The USATF Masters Track & Field Hall of Fame Sub-Committee is accepting nominations for the Masters Track & Field Hall of Fame Class of 2019 through October 1, 2019. Distinguished athletes and administrators who have been active for at least 10 years are eligible for election to the Hall of Fame. In addition, deceased Masters athletes and administrators and those who have retired from competition for at least five years are also eligible for election.

Call for Nominations - MTF Hall of Fame Make Up Class
Is there someone who you know (or even yourself!), from before the 2017 competition season, someone deceased and/or retired from competition who was perhaps overlooked when there was a handover from one MTF Hall of Fame administrator to another? We are asking for your help to identify these outstanding athletes when they were competing years ago.
This induction will be a regular Hall of Fame induction but separate from the current Hall of Fame induction.
The basic requirements are:

Candidates were, during competition or period of contribution, a U.S. citizen or naturalized citizen and that she/he competed or contributed to Masters track and field over a period of ten (10) years, although it need not have been ten (10) consecutive years.
Good athletic candidates could include people with world and/or American records, world and/or American titles, although those are not required.
The contribution category is open-ended in terms of exactly what type of contribution the person has made, you should indicate what your nomination is based on.

If you are able to suggest a name(s) you need not have contact information or competition or contribution details, although they would certainly be appreciated. You do not even need to have personally known the prospective nominee. A good example of a potential candidate would be some of the runners from the Dallas Track Club or the New York Pioneers. Both clubs used to bring a large contingent of runners and they used to be really something "in the day." Anyone who could remember their name(s), that would be helpful, even if the informant did not personally know the individual athletes.

USATF Masters 5 km Championships
USATF Masters athletes competed at the 2019 USATF National 5 km Championships, hosted by the Atlanta Track Club's Atlanta's Finest 5K, in Atlanta, GA on Saturday, August 17, 2019. Planning Underway for 2020 USATF Masters Indoor Championships and WMA Outdoors
Planning is well underway for both the 2020 USATF Masters Indoor Championships in Baton Rouge, Louisiana in March and the 2020 WMA Championships in Toronto, Ontario, Canada in July. The WMA Championships in Toronto will include events on the track and in the field, as well as non-stadia events: Cross Country, and 10 Km and Half Marathon Road events. Entries for both are expected to open before the end of 2019. The daily schedule for Toronto is available here, with the daily schedule for Baton Rouge expected in early October.
As an incentive for participation in Toronto 2020, the Masters LDR Executive Committee has determined that competitors in any of the three non-stadia events, the XC, the 10 Km, or the Half Marathon can earn 2020 Individual Masters Grand Prix points. An individual who runs more than one non-stadia event may still only earn points from one event, presumably their best finish.

2019 USATF Masters 1 Mile Championships

On Friday evening, August 23rd, the HAP Crim Festival of Races and its Michigan Mile hosted the 2019 USATF Masters 1 Mile Championships on the roads of Flint, Michigan. Athletes and spectators enjoyed the festival atmosphere as the Masters Championships were followed by the Open Mile and the Young Runners (12-and-under) Mile. After competition, participants finished off the event with beverage and eats on a delightful summer evening in one of the most welcoming and resilient cities in America, Flint, Michigan!

As a USATF sanctioned event and a certified and record eligible course, any American record established here is verifiable. Most of the existing road mile age division records have been set at this event. Twelve Runners toppled the existing American records this past weekend including: W45 Sonja Friend-Uhl 5:06 W50 Fiona Bayly 5:23 M50 Tim Van Orden 4:46 W55 Marisa Sutera Strange 5:28 W60 Nancy Simmons 5:54 M60 David Westenberg 5:13 W70 Jeannie Rice 6:25 M70 Bob Giambalvo 6:00 M75 Jan Frisby 6:16 M85 Jon Desenberg 10:10 M90 Nathaniel Finestone 12:50.

USATF Masters 15 Km Championships

On Saturday, October 26th, the Tulsa Federal Credit Union's Tulsa Run will host their 7th consecutive and final edition of the USATF Masters 15 Km Championships. Tulsa will put on its usual great show. There will be a complimentary Masters Championships pasta dinner the night before, and the downtown hotels are convenient to the Start and Finish. The head start for the Championships over a challenging racecourse that showcases the neighborhoods of Tulsa makes Masters Runners the focal point of the race. This has been one of the gemstones of the Masters Grand Prix Circuit; celebrate a great Championship run of 7 years. USATF Masters LDR Phidippides Award

Remember to sign up for the USATF Masters Phidippides Program which rewards Masters runners of all abilities for their participation in organized road races. Hundreds of Masters runners from ages 40 to 90 have earned awards each year. There is still time to run races, earn points, and apply for the award. Anti-Doping Report
Masters athletes are subject to doping control testing both in and out of competition and may be sanctioned by the US Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) for violations.
