Nehnevaj Qualifies for World Championships in 20 km Race Walk
USATF North Carolina member
Dan Nehnevaj
has been named to Team USA for the upcoming
World Athletics Championships
(July 15-24) in Eugene, Oregon. He will be one of 151 athletes from the U.S. to compete in Eugene -
full roster here
.
Nehnevaj, 25, a member of the Raleigh Walkers, will compete in the 20 km Race Walk event on day one of the championships - July 15.
Needing a top 60 world ranking to be named to the team, Nehnevaj moved from #72 to #60 when the final rankings were released by World Athletics on June 29. His ranking was based on his 2:59:22 second place finish at the USATF 35 km championships in January and then his 1:23:10 20 km performance at the Poděbrady Race Walking event in the Czech Republic on April 2. The 20 km mark is the #7 performance in U.S. history at the distance.
Nehnevaj began competitive walking three years ago following his graduation from West Virginia Tech and is a member of the USATF North Carolina Race Walk Development Program that was started in 2019 to support emerging & elite athletes in the Race Walk, as they look to compete as professional athletes. This is first time Nehnevaj will represent Team USA at a major global championship event.
Nehnevaj will toe the line in Eugene on July 15 (3:10 pm PT / 6:10 pm ET) with fellow U.S. walker Nick Christie.
